About Peter
Peter's Story
Peter and his wife, Regina Hartley, have been residents of Ramsey, NJ for 23 years. They have a son, Harry, who is in college.
After retiring from Deloitte in 2013 as its Chief Communications Officer, Peter has focused his energies on family, community service, travel, and local political service.
In 2015, Peter was elected Councilman for the Borough of Ramsey, New Jersey. In this capacity, Peter was voted Council President in 2018 and again in 2021-2024. He is currently the Committee Chair for Public Safety. He formerly chaired the Utilities, Buildings, and Grounds Committee, and the Health, Education and Social Services Committee. He is Council Liaison the Board of Health, the VFW, and Technology. He also serves as a Council member on Ramsey Finance and Administration Committee. Peter formerly served as vice president of the Ramsey Students and Parents for Responsible Choices Board (SPARC), and is a member of the Ramsey is For Everyone Team (RIFE).
Peter has spent the majority of his career in business and in communications. From 1997, Peter was Deloitte Consulting’s Global Director of Communications serving that business’s worldwide operations across 38 countries, and worked closely with the Firm’s Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer. In this executive role, Peter was asked to take on special business projects.
As Chief Communications Officer for Deloitte LLP and its subsidiaries, Peter was responsible for developing and leading Deloitte’s Communications strategy and initiatives for all its businesses including Deloitte’s India support teams in Mumbai and Hyderabad. Prior to his time with Deloitte, Peter worked at UPS’s Global Headquarters in Atlanta for four years where he supervised both communications and business initiatives.
Peter also has a strong background in information technology. He worked as a multi-computer language programmer advancing to IT systems mainframe architect for Aetna Life & Casualty operations in Hartford, Connecticut.
Out of college, Peter spent a number of years in FM radio as an on-air personality interviewing top recording artists, directing music formats, working closely with major record labels, and contributing regularly to national music trade magazines.
On the personal side, Peter was a Ramsey Soccer Association coach and a CCD teacher at Saint Paul’s RC Church Ramsey. He was also a New York City Relief Bus volunteer which aids the homeless on the streets of New York City and Newark, NJ. Peter has been a mentor in the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program of New York City. He is an active member of St Paul’s Men Cornerstone Group and the Ramsey Knights of Columbus, and an authorized NJDOC Religious Volunteer currently assigned to Northern State Prison in Newark.
Peter received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Springfield College, Springfield, Massachusetts, and a Master of Arts Degree from Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut.
